Hi Reader

I had a couple of different emails planned for tonight. I started writing and everything sounded hollow. I walked away and came back, but first I took a stroll through my instagram messages.

It is no secret if you follow me on instagram I am disenchanted with social media, I have pretty much quit posting on Facebook and TikTok is a seventh circle of hell I am not interested in participating in, I am not interested in being a "creator" I am interested in helping animals, shelter leaders and staff. Make a difference in how their day goes.

Some of my messages are truly sad, one that hit me today was a young 20-something person working in a municipal open intake shelter, no barrier adoptions, turn and burn with the animals as I call it, just get them in and get them out. They are only interested in the numbers. He is totally frustrated and while he says he is looking for a new job in the field, he will probably leave shelter work.

These are people we cannot afford to lose. People who care. Working in shelter who WILL NOT MAKE changes because this is "how we have always done it." To make matters worse the people at the top truly don't give a shit about the pets they are supposed to protect.

Do I have an answer for him, no I don't, I wish I did. I wish we could make people care about animals, I wish people would spay and neuter and stop backyard breeding and keep their pets. All the things that are not happening.

I wish I had a more cheery message for Saturday night. Carry on.
